Target Announces Major Store Overhaul After Sales Dip
On an earnings call earlier this week, Target reported fourth-quarter net sales fell 1.5% year over year to $30.5 billion.
The Minnesota-based retailer has tried several things over the last few years to boost sales. In 2024, I wrote an article about the retailer launching a low-cost brand with over 400 items, we've also published stories about A.I. technology the store uses to improve employee efficiency, and new policies designed to stop retail theft. Now, Target is planning a major in-store makeover designed to improve the customer experience.

Target Reveals Major Store Updates Coming to 600+ Locations
There are nearly 2,000 Target stores in the United States. California leads the country with more than 200, followed by Texas (98), and then Florida (85). Here in Minnesota there are 60 Target locations. Customers across the country will soon begin to notice significant updates in stores.
Target is planning major changes to its stores as it works to bring shoppers back, after reporting declining sales.

Sales were down in several categories including apparel, accessories, home merchandise, and household essential items. The company's plan to attract more customers and increase sales is a major overhaul of its in-store experience.
- The company plans to expand fresh food offerings, introduce more snack and grocery items, and promote its private-label grocery line, Good & Gather, as it aims to make food a bigger reason customers visit stores.
- The beauty department is also getting a redesign. Target currently has Ulta Beauty in many of its stores, that will be replaced with a new “Beauty Studio” concept at more than 600 locations.
- The retailer is also adding a new section called “Fun101,” which will feature collectibles, toys, sports gear, and pop-culture merchandise aimed at younger shoppers. Target is also shifting its strategy with home décor and clothing lines with the goal of getting trend-driven items to store shelves faster.
