Experience Holiday Magic at Minnesota’s Candy Cane Institute
I have a 9-year-old and an 11-year-old, so the window for creating Christmas “magic” is shrinking quickly. I’m doing everything I can to fill the holiday season with fun experiences they’ll remember as part of their childhood Christmases.
Luckily, there are several holiday options in our area to create lifelong memories, including a trip to the longest drive-thru Christmas light show in Minnesota or a visit to the Mall of America to explore the Candy Cane Institute.

The Mall of America in Bloomington is the largest entertainment and retail complex in the country. Inside, you'll find more than 500 shops and major attractions like Nickelodeon Universe, SEA LIFE, the LEGO store, and more. And this month, some holiday magic at the Candy Cane Institute.
What Is The Candy Cane Institute at the Mall of America?
Imagine the North Pole’s research department brought to life by actual elf “scientists,” complete with interactive stations and gadgets that supposedly help Santa track who’s naughty, who’s nice, and what every kid wants most.
MOA's website explains, "Admission to Candy Cane Institute is free and includes a 10 to 15-minute self-guided tour, interactive elf stops along the way, and a visit with Santa."
If you want to check out the Candy Cane Institute, you can reserve a time or just try your luck walking in. If you do book your time and photo session online, you'll get a personalized phone call from Santa. This holiday attraction is located on Level 1 near the North Entrance of MOA and is open through Christmas Eve.
