12+ Stores in Minnesota Closing in 2026 – Here’s The Full List

Minnesota may be home of 10,000 lakes, but we are also home to amazing communities that support one another.  "Support Local" has become a buzzword phrase that unfortunately are just words if people don't back it up with purchases.  Sadly, our state is seeing several chains who have announced closures.

List of Retail Giants That Are Closing Stores Throughout The United States in 2026, Including in Minnesota

As I walk through a grocery store, I can't help but notice that the number of items I'm placing in my cart are costing quite a bit more than a year ago.  Go back even farther to 2020 and you'll notice the inflated prices in quite a few essential goods.  The reality is, life is more expensive in 2026 and unfortunately, businesses are facing some difficult decisions as a result.

According to the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, about 96% of firms have noticed increased operational costs.  As essential items like insurance, payroll, and supplies are being paid, 42% of those in business are verifying that these cost increases aren't just noticeable changes, they are significant.

Several areas of our state also thrive from tourism but one of the latest surveys to Minnesota hospitality businesses shows some devastating news.  According to Mpls. St. Paul Magazine, fewer customers spent a weekend enjoying the restaurants and lodging by their favorite lake in 2025.  This change is impacting the bottom line.  53% of the businesses in hospitality in our state are reporting lower profits.

2026 may be the year of the horse, but it is also one where many retail chains are making the incredibly hard decision to shutter some or all of their locations for good.  Macy's and Francesca's made announcements earlier about their decision to close stores in our state.  See more below.
