Austin Rendler, hit two home runs with 4 RBI in a 5-3 DRS League Faribault win at Union Hill Sunday.

Rendler smashed a 3-run home run in the first inning and added a solo shot in the top of the 9th after the Bulldogs had pulled to within a run following a two run homer by Conrad Masberg.

Joe Grote went the distance for Faribault on the mound allowing 10 hits, 3 runs while striking out 5 batters and not giving up any walks.  Grote threw 124 pitches, 84 strikes.

Union Hill pitcher Charlie Otteson also went the distance giving up 6 hits with only one of the runs earned.  He struck out 2 and also walked no batters.  Otteson threw 111 pitches, 76 strikes.

The game opened with Aiden Tobin reaching base for Faribault on an error.  Danny Pierce followed with a bunt single.

Grote hit a fly ball to right for the first out with Tobin tagging and advancing to third base.

Matt Lane then clubbed a 1-1 count single to score Tobin.

After a second out was recorded Rendler smacked a 1-0 count pitch over the right field fence for a 4-0 lead.

The Bulldogs scratched out a run in the third inning when Jack Kreutzian opened with 0-1 count single followed by a Jack Becker 0-1 count double.

Joe Becker hit a 1-0 count pitch for a fielder's choice with Kreutzian scoring and Becker thrown out at third base.

Union Hill scored 2 runs in the 8th to bring up the tension for Lakers fans.

Will Busch opened with a first pitch single.  John Connelly came in to run for him.

Following a fly out and ground out Conrad Masberg clubbed a 0-1 count 2-run homer.

Adan Giesen hit a 2-1 count pitch for a single to get the tying run on base before a fly out ended the threat.

Rendler jumped on the first pitch he saw in the 9th-inning for a home run to right field.

With two outs in the bottom of the inning Jack Becker was hit by a pitch but Grote was able to get the last out of the game.

Faribault is now 17-9.  Union Hill 11-9.

The Lakers host New Prague Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 7:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs are at St. Patrick Tuesday, July 18, 2023 for a make-up game.
