Montgomery Flys Away From Faribault
The Montgomery Mallards got a terrific pitching performance from Johnny Krocak in a 6-0 win over the Faribault Lakers Friday night in Montgomery.
Max Krautkremer preserved the shut out with two innings of one-hit relief.
Krocak allowed two hits over 7 innings with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks. Krautkremer walked no batters and struck out two.
Krocak threw 98 pitches, 71 strikes, Krautkremer had 29 pitches, 19 strikes in the Mallards fly away victory.
Danny Bomsta pitched the first 6 innings for Faribault giving up 6 runs on 11 hits. Just three of the runs were earned thanks to 4 Lakers errors in the game.
Bomsta struck out 3 and walked 3 Mallards. He threw 105 pitches, 65 strikes.
Joe Grote threw 2 innings of scoreless relief with no hits and one strikeout while throwing 26 pitches, 19 strikes.
Montgomery pitchers mastered the Faribault lineup with only two batters collecting hits. Austin Rendler had 2 hits including a double and Xander Fitzsimmons collected a single.
The Mallards scored two runs in the second inning, three in the fifth and a run in the sixth for the shutout win.
Cole Pint had 2 hits including a double, 2 RBI and scored 2 runs for the Mallards.
Mike Flicek added 2 hits, 2 RBI, Krocak added 2 hits and Ryan Iverson smacked an RBI double.
The Mallards have 25 stolen bases in 30 attempts this season but were 0 for 1 against the Lakers.
Montgomery is 5-4 with a game Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Webster.
Faribault is now 8-7 and hosts Waconia at 2:00 p.m. Sunday.
