The latest Minnesota State High School Coaches Association Polls feature a number of teams from the region.

Triton moved into the others receiving votes category in Class 2A.  Led by Division One football recruit Pierce Petersohn the Cobras dominated Class 1A #3 rated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton February 6th, 65-45.

Petersohn is second in the state in scoring according to the Minnesota Basketball Hub averaging 32.2  points per game.  He also ranks 4th in rebounding with 12.9 carems per contest.

Jordan Borowicz of Roseau averages 34.2 points per game.  The senior, 5'10, has 43 three point baskets and averages 10.4 rebounds per game.  That ranks 26th in the state.

Petersohn, 6'5, racks up many of his points with athletic dunks.  According to the Minnesota Basketball Hub he has just 11 three point baskets in 16 attempts this season.

Hunter Vinkemeier, junior, 6'10 is the top rebounder in the state averaging 20.1 rebounds a game.  The LeSueur-Hendereson Giant is also scoring at a 30.8 points per game clip with 42 three point baskets.

Goodhue is still #1 in Class 2A.  Fellow Hiawatha Valley League member Zumbrota-Mazeppa was ranked #10 in the latest poll,

The Cougars lost February 6th to Cannon Falls 65-49 in a H-V-L tilt at the Bomber's Hangar.  Cannon Falls has been in the rankings periodically this season also.  The defense was a clinic and the Bombers outscored the Cougars 40-20 in the paint.

Section 1AA is going to be some kind of tournament in about a month.  Cannon Falls Head Coach Josh Davisson told KDHL on the Bombers Coaches Show February 7th there are provably 8 teams that could win the tournament.

Six of the teams in the Section are in the Top 2o in the Minnesota-scores.net Quality Results Formula (QRF).

#1 Goodhue, #8 Zumbrota-Mazeppa, #12, Cannon Falls, #14 Rushford-Peterson, #15 Triton, #18 Caledonia.

Cotter/Hope Lutheran has 16 wins, and Chatfield 14 wins.

Using March 2019 data from the Social Security Administration, Stacker compiled a list of the most popular names in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C., according to their 2018 SSA rankings. The top five boy names and top five girl names are listed for each state, as well as the number of babies born in 2018 with that name.
