Faribault Lakers Punch Ticket to State Tournament
The Faribault Lakers bunched some hits together while Montgomery had a hard time hitting off former Major Leaguer Jake Petricka in a 6-1 Region 3C Winner's bracket victory Monday night.
Petricka said the crowd was awesome at Bell Field and he was surprised to see he threw 140 pitches while holding the Mallards to 4-infield hits.
The #1 seed Lakers host #2 Union Hill at 1:00 p.m. Sunday (according to the bracket) for the Region 3C title. The winner also receives a bye the opening weekend of MBA State Tournament.
The 100th MBA State Tournament is being played in Delano, Dassel and Litchfield this year.
Petricka struck out 11, walked 2 in the victory and now has 110 strikeouts in 73 innings pitched. He has walked 12 batters and given up 6 earned runs. ERA is now 0.73 with a 8-0 record.
Faribault scored 3 runs in the third inning and 3 runs in the 4th inning.
Joey Grote clubbed a 2-RBI double. Nate Rost continued swinging a hot bat with 2 hits including a double and one RBI.
Tucker Alstead had a pair of hits including a double and RBI.
Petricka also smacked a double and scored for Faribault
The Lakers were 2 for 3 in stolen bases with Jack Jandro and Alstead achieving those.
In the other Region 3C game Monday Shakopee ended the New Prague Orioles season winning 10-9 in New Prague.
The Coyotes play Lonsdale 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The bracket says location to be determined.

- Morristown 9 Le Sueur 3 (Brave season ends)
- Morristown plays loser of Jordan game on Saturday in Mankato at 11:00 a.m.
- Waterville 6 Waseca 0 (Jays season over)
- Waterville plays loser of Gaylord game on Saturday in Mankato at 1:30 p.m.
- Winner's bracket games are Tuesday, August 8, 2023 with Gaylord hosting Blue Earth at 7:00 p.m. and Jordan at home against Belle Plaine at 7:30 p.m.
- Winners of those games are in the state tournament and play for #1 and #2 seed out of Region 6C on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.
