Spring Valley Woman With Active Warrant Accused of Fleeing State Trooper
39-year-old Ashley Rose McConnell of Spring Valley is charged with one count of felony fleeing and a misdemeanor charge of giving a false name to a peace officer.
The complaint says a trooper stopped a vehicle for a malfunctioning taillight in the area of the Game Heaven Reservoir along County Rd. 1 and 55th St. SE. Two people were inside it.
The driver, later identified as McConnell, told the trooper she was her sister and gave the trooper a license. The trooper investigated and suspected McConnell was lying about who she was, the complaint indicates.
The trooper informed McConell a finger-print reader was going to be brought to the scene and returned to his squad vehicle. McConnell then fled from the scene at an estimated speed of 35 mph.
Law enforcement used a PIT manuver to cause the vehicle to stop. McConnell was taken into custody.
The charges say she knew she had an active warrant.
McConnell was released without bail following her first court appearance Wednesday morning. She is due back in court in May.
