Rochester Child Assault Case Dismissed by Prosecutors
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Olmsted County Attorney's Office has dismissed a 2 1/2-year-old criminal complaint charging a Twin Cities man with child sexual assault.
Allegations of Sexual Abuse
According to court records, 58-year-old Robert Edward Collins of Plymouth was accused of sexually abusing a young girl multiple times at a home in Rochester in 2018. The criminal complaint alleged that he groped the girl multiple times when she was between the ages of 8 and 9 years old.
The court document states that, in an interview with investigators, Collins denied sexually abusing the girl.
Insufficient evidence
He was charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim under the age of 13. A filing in Olmsted County court indicates that local prosecutors dismissed the charge because they do not have sufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
