Cannon Falls, MN (KROC-AM News)- A crash that closed a stretch of highway in southeast Minnesota has left a Cannon Falls woman fighting for her life.

The crash was one of more than 250 reported across Minnesota as a messy winter storm battered the state Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

First responders were sent to the crash scene shortly after 5:00 Wednesday morning. Officials closed the highway less than 30 minutes later. 

Two vehicles transporting three people were involved in the collision.

Cannon Falls Woman Suffers Critical Injuries in Crash That Closed Hwy. 19

The crash occurred on Hwy. 19 about a mile east of Cannon Falls. An eastbound car and westbound car collided on the two-lane highway, according to the state crash report. 

57-year-old Sheri Faye Paulson of Cannon Falls was driving the car. She was taken to the Mayo Clinic in Cannon Falls with life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol says.

46-year-old Joseph James Miller of Red Wing was driving the SUV. 

Miller and his passenger, identified as 26-year-old April Jo Miller of New Mexico, were both brought to the Cannon Falls Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol says.

Hwy. 19 had snow and ice on it at the time of the crash. The state crash report also says all three occupants were buckled up and alcohol was not involved in the collision. 

Mayo Clinic Ambulance, the Cannon Falls Police Department and the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash. Authorities reopened Hwy. 19 around 6:30 Wednesday morning.
