73-Year-Old Woman Killed, Two Men Severely Injured in Fiery Head-on Southeast Minnesota Crash

Rose Creek, MN (KROC-AM News)- One woman was killed and two people suffered severe injuries in a fiery, head-on crash at a rural southeast Minnesota intersection on Saturday.

Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik says first responders were called to the crash scene shortly before 1:30 p.m.

He said weather and road conditions were factors in the deadly collision. 

Fiery Head-on Crash in Mower County Claims Life of Iowa Woman, Severely Injures Two Iowa Men

The fatality occurred at the intersection of 610 Ave. and 170th St. in Rose Creek, which is about 10 miles southeast of Austin. 

Sandvik says a northbound pickup hauling a flatbed trailer collided with a southbound passenger car. Three people were in the car and the driver was the lone occupant of the pickup. 

The passenger car became fully engulfed in flames following the crash. Sandvik described the driver of the passenger car as a 69-year-old Waterloo, Iowa man.

A 73-year-old Waterloo woman and a 26-year-old Waterloo man were riding in the car. The 73-year-old woman became trapped in the vehicle. 

First responders freed her and provided aid but she was pronounced dead at the scene, Sandvik said. 

The driver and the 26-year-old passenger both suffered what are being described as major injuries. Sandvik says they were taken to the Mayo Clinic hospital in Austin for further care. 

A 60-year-old man from Austin was driving the pickup. He was treated for minor injuries at the scene, Sandvik says. 

No names have been released. Sandvik says the occupants of the car were related to each other. An update on their conditions is not available. 

The deadly crash is under investigation.
