Goodview Mayor & Winona County Emergency Manager Announces Run for Winona County Sheriff

Goodview, MN (KROC-AM News)- A southeast Minnesota Mayor has announced a run for Winona County Sheriff.

Long-time Winona County Sheriff Ron Ganrude announced last month that he will not seek reelection this Fall.

He has held the office since he was elected in November 2014 and has been with the Winona County Sheriff’s Office since 1986. 

Winona County Emergency Management Director & Goodview Mayor Ben Klinger Announces Run for Winona County Sheriff

Goodview Mayor Ben Klinger announced his run for Winona County Sheriff on Friday. 

Klinger says he has spent 25 years with the sheriff’s office, working in the Winona County Jail as detention deputy, shift commander, training officer, and program coordinator.

He is currently the head of the sheriff’s office’s Emergency Management Department. 

Klinger, who is in his second term as Goodview Mayor, also says he served as a part time police officer in Goodview and Lewiston. 

He says he has completed leadership training through the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association, Minnesota Chiefs of Police, and the Minnesota Bureau of Apprehension.

“I believe in servant leadership; supporting those who do the work, listening first, and leading with integrity and accountability. A sheriff’s job is not about authority for its own sake, but about serving deputies and staff so they can best serve the public,” Klinger wrote. 

The official filing window for candidates for county offices in Minnesota opens on May 19.
