Arrest Warrant Issued For Suspect in Rochester Stabbing Case
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - An arrest warrant was issued today for a man who had been scheduled to stand trial next Monday on charges stemming from a stabbing that occurred outside a Rochester day shelter for homeless individuals.
Olmsted County court records state that the arrest warrant was issued after 53-year-old Ricardo Elizondo Jr. failed to appear at a pretrial hearing earlier this week. He is charged with two counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
Altercation Led to Stabbing
According to the criminal complaint, Elizondo allegedly stabbed another man in the back during an altercation outside of The Landing in the 400 block of 3rd Avenue Southeast in downtown Rochester on the afternoon of April 16 of last year. Responding police officers reported encountering the victim with visible stab wounds and identified the suspect as Elizondo.
Caught on Video
The court document says the victim told officers that Elizondo shoved him and spat at him, prompting him to respond by punching Elizondo. Security camera video shows Elizondo then stabbing the victim in the upper left back.
The criminal complaint states that staff from the day shelter were able to separate the two men and disarm Elizondo before police arrived at the scene.

Another Victim
Police also encountered another man with a cut on his arm. He reported that he was slashed by Elizondo while trying to break up the altercation.
Both men were transported by ambulance to St. Marys Hospital for treatment of their wounds.
