Fun Fall Things to do in the St. Cloud Area with Family
It's that time of year when the kids are back in school, you might find yourself with some more time on your hands, and the weekends become a more important family time than it did during the summer months. You may want to find some fun activities around the area for both family fun and some adult activities as well.
Here are some of the things going on around the area now, before we lead into more of the Holiday time starting with Thanksgiving and ending with the New Year celebrations. A lot of these things are going on this month of October.
FALL COLORS
Every year the DNR puts out a guide for fall color viewing in the state. Of course, this kind of a prediction as the weather obviously plays a huge part in when and how vibrant the colors can be. Starts in Northern Minnesota, generally, then moves on down the state.
If you do decide to do the Fall color viewing. Think about doing a hike or a bike ride instead of the drive-by option. Great time for a learning opportunity for kids about trees, plants and what happens at this time of year.
WATER VIEWING OF FALL COLORS
It might also be fun, also depending on weather, to go around on the Mississippi or some of the other bodies of water we have in this state and take in some of the sights from a small boat or kayak.
PUMPKIN PATCHES, ORCHARDS, MAZES
There are several of these around the area. Depends on how elaborate or simple you would like your challenge of a corn maze can be.
Fairhaven Farm - Pick your own apples, grapes, pumpkins and flowers.
Stoney Brook Farms - Home to Minnesota's largest corn maze! Located in Foley, they have pumpkins and corn as their biggest crops. They also have sugar snap peas, cauliflower, green beans, broccoli, asparagus, kohlrabi, gourds, ornamental pumpkins, and 10 different varieties of hard squash; Acorn, Buttercup, Butternut, Spaghetti, Delicata, Sweet Dumpling, Carnival, Turks Turban, Ambercup and Hubbard.
TAKE A ROAD TRIP
Head to Brooten, Minnesota and make a stop at the Redhead Creamery. They have about a bizillion different kinds of cheese. You can sample it, see how it's made, and just enjoy many cheeses. If you love cheese, this is the place to go.
Or, you can head out to Kimball area for the Millner Heritage Winery. This place is amazing, and they have some great Hungarian foods to try too.
These events and businesses are just for starters. There are plenty of other orchards and pumpkin patches around the state if you want to make a long weekend and just enjoy everything that Fall in Minnesota has to offer.
