From ‘ALF’ to Other Classic TV Favorites, Only One Cast Member Is Still Alive

Reruns have a way of making old TV shows feel immortal. The casts, unfortunately, are not.

Iconic sitcoms like ALF definitely came from a different era. But thanks to streaming services and even YouTube, moments from these shows will suddenly pop up in your head, and you're able to scratch that itch by immediately pulling them up.

ALF Was Always a Weird Show — and This Is No Exception

With the passing of Anne Schedeen on June 14, 2026, ALF — the late-'80s NBC sitcom about a furry, muppet-like, cat-eating alien living with a suburban family — has lost its mom. Schedeen died at the age of 77, and is likely — deservedly so — most remembered for playing Kate Tanner across all four seasons of the show.

This leaves Andrea Elson, who played daughter and sister Lynn Tanner, as the last surviving member of the show's main cast. Max Wright, who played nerdy father Willie Tanner, died in 2019. Benji Gregory, who played son Brian, died at the young age of 46 in June 2024.

But being that this is ALF — a show that younger people might believe was not even real — there's a bit of a wrinkle. Paul Fusco, who voiced ALF, operated the puppet, and co-created the show, is still alive. Michu Meszaros, the actor who wore the full-body ALF costume, passed away in 2016.
