In this new era for Minnesota sports fans forced to navigate streaming subscriptions to watch some of their favorite teams, we got a few pieces of good news over the last couple of days.

With the Minnesota Wild and Timberwolves both heading into the 2026-2027 season centering their television plans around standalone team streaming subscriptions, this left a lot of fans with traditional cable or satellite TV providers out in the cold while forcing fans to add a roughly $20/month subscription to their monthly budget for each team.

To watch both teams, adding another $40+ on top of your existing cable or satellite package can be a pretty tall ask, especially if you have a provider that is charging you a regional sports team fee and you're not getting regional teams.

The good news is that there's been another significant change for the Wild, while the Timberwolves finally announced an option to watch games outside of streaming option DAZN. Here's the latest on both of these.

The Wild announced a few cable and satellite TV partners by the start of the season, including the streaming provider Fubo, Spectrum cable TV, and some other smaller cable TV providers around Minnesota and surrounding states.

Aside from a select handful of games also being broadcast for free on over-the-air TV, the only place to watch most of the Wild's games this season is either through an Amazon Prime Video add-on or one of these partner providers.

Comcast Xfinity customers remain left out as negotiations continue to drag on, but DirecTV and the NHL have come to an agreement that includes bringing 4 NHL teams to the satellite and streaming provider, with the Wild included.

Announced on Saturday, the deal brings Wild games to subscribers in the team's market area of Minnesota and some surrounding areas to DirecTV's traditional satellite service, their streaming option DirecTV Stream, and U-verse for subscribers who have a "Choice" package or higher.

Wild games will be able to be found on channel 668 on streaming, 668-1 on satellite, and 1745/745 on U-verse.

Unlike the Wild, Minnesota Timberwolves have fewer options to see games this season. Aside from nationally televised games on other networks, the only place to see every game is on the streaming service DAZN.

While the Timberwolves do have a limited selection of games being offered for free via over-the-air broadcast TV, the only other option for fans has been a DAZN subscription, up until today.

The NBA and DirecTV announced today (October 26) a deal to bring all of the games of 5 teams to fans outside of DAZN in the form of a simulcast.

The Timberwolves are one of these 5 teams, making all of their games that would have otherwise only been available on DAZN accessible to subscribers to DirecTV's satellite and streaming services.

The DAZN simulcast of these Minnesota Timberwolves games will available on channel 668 on both their streaming and satellite platforms.

Just like the Minnesota Wild, Wolves games will be available to subscribers to DirecTV's "Choice" plan or higher.

Both the NBA and NHL deals were described as "multi-year agreements", which means fans will be able to enjoy games via DirecTV beyond this season.

Ten Most Disappointing Minnesota Sports Seasons

The 2021 Minnesota Twins entered the season with high expectations, but unfortunately, they've made the list of most disappointing Minnesota teams of all time.

Disappointment is a common feeling for Minnesota sports fans as the years continue. Following the NBA Championship win for Milwaukee, SportsCenter was quick to point out that Minnesota has the current longest streak of seasons without a championship appearance in the four major sports (MLB/NBA/NFL/NHL). The Minnesota Lynx also chimed in on the stat after claiming four championships since 2011.

The ten teams that are on this list all follow a similar pattern. The year prior was either a great season with a playoff run or one that featured a strong core of players that appeared to have taken the next step. Offseason/preseason expectations were high with even Las Vegas oddsmakers believing in a deep run. Unfortunately, those preseason expectations fell short for the following teams. None of the teams listed below made the playoffs.
