Videos Released of Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Duluth
Duluth, MN (MinnesotaNow) - The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office has released video from body-worn cameras and squad car dashcams of a deadly use-of-force incident in Duluth last week.
According to a preliminary investigation conducted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, St. Louis County Sheriff’s deputies began pursuing an erratic driver around 9:45 p.m. on February 10. The pursuit ended when a sheriff’s office sergeant performed a PIT maneuver, which caused the fleeing vehicle to spin and come to a stop on a city street.
Exchange of Gunfire
The BCA statement says the sergeant and a deputy then exited their squad cars and approached the vehicle while issuing verbal commands to the driver. The video shows the driver shooting a gun from inside the vehicle in the direction of the approaching law officers.
Both deputies returned fire as they retreated to their squad cars. The driver, later identified as 30-year-old Donald Felver III, was shot and fatally wounded. Neither deputy was injured during the incident.
According to the BCA, investigators recovered a handgun and spent shell casings from inside Felver’s vehicle.
Murder Suspect
The day after the fatal officer-involved shooting, the Duluth Police Department and St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office indicated that Felver was a suspect in the murder of a 33-year-old Duluth man that occurred the same day as the exchange of gunfire with deputies.
