3 More Minnesotans Sentenced in Feeding Our Future Fraud Case
Minneapolis, MN (MinnesotaNow) - Three more Minnesotans have been sent to prison for convictions stemming from the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme.
Three More Convicted Fraudsters Sentenced
The U.S. Attorney's Office for Minnesota today announced that 35-year-old Ahmed Abdullahi Ghedi of Minneapolis has been sentenced to 65 months in federal prison. He previously pleaded guilty to one count each of wire fraud and money laundering.
Forty-year-old Abdihakim Ali Ahmed of Apple Valley was given a 54-month prison sentence. He also pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering charges.
26th Defendant Sentenced in the Case
The other defendant, who is the 26th person to be sentenced for convictions connected to the massive scheme to defraud a federal child nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic, was given a three-year prison sentence. A news release says 43-year-old Ahmed Sharif Omar-Hashim of Minneapolis pleaded guilty to a wire fraud charge in federal court in December 2023.
$10 Million in Fraudulently Obtained Federal Funds
All three men were accused of creating bogus meal sites in the Twin Cities area that fraudulently collected approximately $10 million in federal funds.
“These defendants helped generate outlandish and impossible meal counts at Safari Restaurant and associated sites. The numbers defied reality and exposed a scheme built on wanton greed,” said FBI Minneapolis Field Office Special Agent in Charge Christopher D. Dotson.
The investigation that led to their convictions was conducted by the FBI, IRS Criminal Investigation and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
