Information Minnesotans Need In Order to Get Their Real IDs By October 1st
Going to the DMV to get a driver's license can be a real headache. Most times there are long lines and sometimes you have to make multiple trips to get what you need to be accomplished done. We have all been there, done that and got that t-shirt. According to KTTC, all Minnesotans must have a Real ID by October 1st of 2020 if you want to get on an airplane or go into federal buildings.
The Department of Public Safety says that Real ID is essentially a driver's license with more clearance. It'll help you travel easier as well as get on military bases if you need to. Another option is the Enhanced ID. This is if you are planning on traveling to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbeans. The website says you can use your Enhanced ID instead of a passport to go to those locations. That is very convenient because of how close Canida is to Minnesota.
KTTC says that the process is quite easy. You can apply for your Real ID at the DMV or you can do it online to save some time. When you go to get your ID you will need to bring a few documents with you. They ask that you bring proof of your social security number. You will also need proof of your identity, birthdate, and that you are a legal citizen of the United States of America. The last thing on your checklist should be two documents that prove your address. Examples of those documents would be bills, rental agreements, bank statements or anything that is shipped to your house.
This process can be a pain, so many folks are getting on it earlier rather than waiting until the last minute. The date you need to remember is October 1st, 2020. The hope is everyone in Minnesota will have their Real ID by then. If you would like more information on the process or have questions about the different IDs, click here.
