...but I will play one on Saturday during the 36th annual Young Life Cake Auction at the Owatonna High School gym.

I enjoy helping out a good cause. I like having a microphone in my hand. And I love cake. I guess that qualifies me to be an auctioneer for Young Life. I was once told it sounded like I was calling a hockey game at the auction. Not too surprising considering how many hockey games I've broadcast.

Maybe I should holler "GOAL" instead of "SOLD."

We are always encouraged to "try new things" and "get outside your comfort zone." That was certainly the case when I was first asked to assist with this event. I still get a little nervous as my turn to sell cakes approaches. But it is easy to get into the flow of the excitement thanks to Chuck Jamison and the staff / kids from Young Life. With such generous community support, the event is a smashing success each year. And then there are the cakes. 100 incredible cakes, to say the least. The cakes are fantastic and the specials that come with them are amazing.

The doors open at 10:00. Bidding begins at 11:00. You can listen to the entire auction on KRFO AM 1390 and www.krforadio.com. Click here for the auction details. In addition to the cake auction, Saturday features the Big Brothers / Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake, the Night of Knights benefit auction for St. Mary's school, the Color Dash, and even a mixed martial arts event at the Four Seasons Centre.

It's a BIG SATURDAY. Get out to these events. And help out an auctioneer with a bid!
