Huskies Split with Spartans – Prep Scores, January 26
Owatonna boys basketball had five players in double figures in their 89-69 win over Rochester Mayo Tuesday night at OHS. The girls game went to Mayo 76-60. Huskies girls hockey scored early and often in an 11-1 triumph over Red Wing at Four Seasons Centre. Blooming Prairie girls basketball improved to 4-0 with a 53-43 victory over Hayfield.
Brayden Williams scored 29 points including seven three-pointers as OHS moved to 3-1 for the season. Payton Beyer scored 17. Ty Creger chipped in 15. Evan Dushek added 13. Abdi Isman contributed 11. The Huskies host Albert Lea Friday, January 29 at 7:30 pm. (Final: Owatonna 89, Mayo 69)
The OHS girls traded baskets early with No. 17 Mayo Tuesday night. Owatonna was up 9-8 when the Spartans went on a 14-0 run. Mayo led by 19 at the half. The Huskies went on a 15-6 run in the second half to pull within 58-45. Mayo responded with the next 12 points for a 70-45 advantage. Future Drake University player Anna Miller scored 22, while grabbing numerous rebounds and blocking several shots. Lexi Mendenhall and Sarah Kingland each scored 13 for Owatonna. The Owatonna girls hockey team poured in on early on Dudley Otto Rink with eight first-period goals. Future St. Cloud State Husky Grace Wolfe scored a hat trick. Samantha Bogen and Anna Herzog each had two goals and two assists. Ezra Oien had a goal and three helpers. Lillian Hunst had a goal and two assists. OHS outshot the Wingers 52-13 and went 3-for-5 on the power play. Owatonna (4-0) plays at Northfield Thursday, January 28 at 7:15 pm with radio coverage on Kat Kountry 105 FM. Blooming Prairie girls basketball trailed early against Hayfield 15-4 before rallying for a 53-43 win to move to 4-0 on the season. The Vikings also entered the game at 3-0. Megan Oswald scored 15 points, had 10 rebounds and six steals. Bobbie Bruns scored 17 points with nine rebounds, eight steals, and six assists. BP hosts Maple River Friday, January 29.
