The annual Owatonna City Open golf tournament came down to a playoff between the 2018 winner and the defending champ. Tanner Grimmius outlasted 2019 champion Chad Hacker in four playoff holes to win the 2020 title. Grimmius said, via Twitter, "It's always fun to win against your peers. The event has a long history of great winners, adding my name to the list again is awesome."

The Owatonna Golf Booster account @GolfOwatonna gave a hole-by-hole rundown of the playoff on Sunday.

  • "Chad Hacker barely misses a 15 footer for birdie and Tanner Grimmius gets up and down from a difficult spot short of the green on the first playoff hole."
  • "Both tied the difficult par 4 10th hole."
  • "Grimmius and Hacker tied the 11th hole, third playoff hole, with pars. Players teeing off on 17."
  • "Great up and down by Tanner Grimmius on fourth playoff hole to get the win!"

Grimmius stated, "I play a lot of golf with Chad and we compete in events outside Owatonna, so for it to be between the two of us was really fun. Great friend and competitor."

Hacker said in a Twitter message, "We had a great turnout for the weekend and were thrilled to carry on another successful year...Big thanks to everyone involved in making it happen, especially Brooktree, the Owatonna Country Club, Havana Hills, and the Owatonna Golf Boosters. All the courses are in excellent shape."

Both golfers made mention of the loss of a local golfing great.

Grimmius said, "Important to acknowledge the passing on of Dave Cameron this weekend. "The Dogg" as he was known was an intense competitor and I like to think Hacker and I made him smile when we played the additional four holes."

Hacker added, "I want to make mention of the passing of multi past champion, regular participant, and huge fan of the city open, Dave Cameron (Cammy, the Dog). He will be missed but his stories will carry on for decades to come."

Grimmius just won the OCC Club Championship last weekend. He has several city open titles and some runner-up finishes as well. Hacker also won the title in 2013. The City Open is held at both Owatonna Country Club and Brooktree Golf Course.

@Owatonnacc (Owatonna Country Club) offered congratulations to Aaron Olson "who had a hole-in-one at Owatonna Country Club on the second day of the Owatonna City Open. It was hole 7 playing 147 yards and he used a 7 iron."

The junior city open is August 6 and 7. Those ages 13-17 will play Brooktree and OCC. Ages 4-12 will be at Havana Hills.
