It's that time of year when Christmas music becomes more and more predominant wherever you go. Now that Thanksgiving has passed, I personally don't mind sprinkling some festive tunes now and then, but I won't be ready for heaving listening until at least December 22.

That being said, the great and fun debate that seems top pop up each year is what is everyone's favorite Christmas song? While some prefer a more emotional ballad, others prefer the fun, upbeat songs.

It's a matter of personal preference, of course, but the folks at FinanceBuzz wanted to dig a little deeper. They decided to determine the most popular Christmas song in each state and in all of the United States. They way they did this was fairly simple:

Using Google trends, we looked at which holiday song has the most interest in each state.

We looked at the 25 highest-charting holiday songs from Christmas week 2020 and analyzed the results to determine which song was the favorite for each state.

If you were thinking that Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas" was the overall winner, it's actually not even close. While it seems we hear that song 1,000 times every year, it's only the favorite in two states: Hawaii and New Hampshire.

The overall winner and most popular Christmas song in America, according to their study, was “Feliz Navidad”.  Released in 1970 by José Feliciano and featuring bilingual lyrics in Spanish and English, this holiday staple was the most popular song among 11 states.

While “Feliz Navidad” was the most popular Christmas song in America overall, it was not the most popular Christmas song in either Minnesota or Wisconsin. I'm sure you have a guess in mind, so let's see if you are correct.

The most popular Christmas song in both Minnesota and Wisconsin was determined to be "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!". That makes sense for a lot of reasons.

If you're wondering if "Grandma Got Run Over By Reindeer" showed up anywhere, the answer is a no. However, “You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch” did hold the top spot in Ohio, so one novelty song did make the cut.
