The Faribault Falcons Girls Tennis team traveled to Rochester today for a Big 9 Conference Triangular with the Century Panthers and Northfield Raiders.

Head Coach Jeff Anderson reports Century played the Falcons at 9:00 a.m. followed by Northfield against Faribault at 11:00 a.m.

Anderson says the Panthers will probably finish in the top 2 in the conference with Rochester Mayo slightly ahead.

He stated Northfield had a number of seniors play with years of experience against his young team.

Rochester Century dominated Faribault 7-0.

Anderson was impressed by the Falcons #1 doubles team of Hailey Reuvers and Grace Brazil.  They lost their match 6-3, 6-3 but he says, "Both served well and did a great job placing the ball and keeping it in play.  Their Century opponents were a bit more aggressive and consistent."

Northfield defeated Faribault 6-1.

Anderson pointed out 8 of the 10 spots in the Raiders lineup were filled by experienced seniors.

The lone victory for Faribault came at #2 singles where Sophmore Hailey Reuvers defeated Raiders senior Maya Deschamp 6-3, 4-6, 13-11.

Coach Anderson says it was a, "Fun battle to watch.  Hailey served the ball well and had great ball movement during the match and kept in the points through good hustle and great court coverage."

"Hailey was also implementing a good mix of aggressive shots and neutral shots to try and derail Maya's game plan.  Both players were countering each other well and many points were won on errors."

After they split the two sets a 10 point tiebreaker was in order.  The score was 5-5 when Hailey put some points together to take a 8-5 lead.  Maya countered to make it 8-7.  The score was tied at 10.  Maya scored the 11th point.  Hailey tied the match at 11 before scoring a point, "on a solid return of serve and great serve to win the next two points."

Neither the Northfield or Faribault High School websites have rosters for the teams so that is why grades are not listed for most of the athletes.

The Northfield website still lists Joel Olson as the Activities Director.  He is the Faribault High School Principal now.

The Falcons will play the Huskies at 2:30 p.m. and the Packers at 4:30 p.m.  Faribault is now 1-4 on the season.
