Faribault Parks and Recreation Director Paul Penansky will be our guest on AM Minnesota at 9:30 a.m. today.  Penansky told me recently attendance at the outdoor pool in North Alexander Park was up from a season ago.  We will get more details.  The Family Aquatic Center closed August 19th and Penansky said the timing was perfect with cool, wet weather following it's closure for the season.

Recently I saw one of the key people involved in getting the Faribault outdoor facility and she noted it had already been 15 years since it's opening.  It took 8 years of efforts to replace the former White Sands Pool in Faribault.  Actually longer than that from the time the White Sands Pool was closed to the opening of the Family Aquatic Center, but the 8 years is how long community supporters worked on getting the facility built.

It was one of the first facilities of it's kind in the area.  The first few years kids were bused to Faribault from all over the region.  Since then Northfield, Owatonna and several Twin Cities metropolitan area communities have built their own pools.

The Faribault Family Aquatic Center was built in 2002 and features a number of amenities.  We will discuss some of these on the program.

If you can't tune in at 9:30 a.m. the program should be uploaded to this posting by mid-afternoon.  Just go to www.kdhlradio.com and click on the AM Minnesota tab.
