Family Says Argument Over Stimulus Check Led to Quadruple Murder

A shooting that has left four people dead allegedly stemmed from an argument over a stimulus check.

According to Fox 59, the shooting took place this past Saturday in Indianapolis when suspect Malike Halfacre confronted Jeanettrius Moore after he felt that he was entitled to "half of her stimulus check." Moore is the mother of Halfacre's daughter, one of her two young children.

One of Moore's family members, Wendy Johnson, relayed an alleged conversation between the two, telling Fox 59 that Halfacre was out for her stimulus money.

“She said, ‘No, you don’t deserve any of this. I work. I take care of our child. You don’t do anything.’

“He said, ‘I really want half.’

“She said, ‘I’ll give you 450. Take it or leave it.’

“He said, ‘I’m gonna get that money.’

Johnson says that Halfacre "came back" after walking away from the conversation with an "evil look." He then returned later, demanding to know where the money was before rifling through Moore's purse.

Police say that Halfacre then shot and killed four people.

The dead were identified by the family as Jeanettrius’ 7-year-old daughter, Eve, her 23-year-old brother, Daquan, her 44-year-old mother, Tomeeka Brown, and her 35-year-old cousin Anthony Johnson.

Moore was wounded and the daughter she shared with Halfacre went missing while he was also reported to have gone on the run. Johnson continued to describe the chaotic scene.

Daquan was trying to save his sister. He was taking up for his sister. He stood up and said, ‘You cannot have the money. You cannot have her money.’ That’s what she said and pushed Malik, and Malik pulled out the gun and just started killing everybody. He shot Daquan first. He shot Anthony. He turned around, and he shot my Auntie Tomeeka. My Auntie Tomeeka said, ‘Malik!’ and he shot her again. He came back and shot Daquan for the second time and somewhere between little Baby Eve got hit somewhere and she was screaming, she was screaming.

Johnson says Halfacre wasn't done. After putting his daughter into her car seat, he returned to continue shooting.

He went back in the house, and that’s when he shot Anthony again when he was coming down the steps. When he went in the house, that was Jeanettrius’ cue to run for her life, and that’s what she did.

Other family members say Moore was always scared of Halfacre, and you could "feel this fear."

We always knew that he carried a gun. He didn’t have a job — just laying around being lazy. It was like you could feel this fear, but you never want to do anything about it because you’re too scared and it might come to what it’s come to. Just him being angry about not having any money and him not doing anything for himself, so he thought he would just take something from her.

Halfacre was found hours later along with the couple's missing baby. After a four-hour standoff with SWAT, he was arrested and taken into custody.
