It's time for some good news!

Selflessly serving others is an important aspect of a strong community, and with that in mind, one local business is dedicating an entire day to service giving its workforce the opportunity to give back.

Every year for the past four years the team at Altra Federal Credit Union in Rochester takes a day off and spends it volunteering at several local organizations.

“Giving back to the communities we serve aligns with the founding principle of Credit Unions everywhere,” said Altra President and Chief Executive Officer, Steve Koenen. “Altra Gives Back Day allows our employees to live that philosophy of People Helping People.”

“We are especially grateful to have options for in-person volunteer projects in 2021,” said Altra Community Relations Manager, Shawn Hauser. “Employees are eager to go out into our communities to assist organizations who have been struggling since March of 2020.”

Today's volunteer efforts are part of a larger initiative across Minnesota created by the Minnesota Credit Union Network called CU Forward Day. 2,300 employees from more than 60 credit unions across the state are serving their communities today, giving over 10,000 hours to assist more than 540,000 Minnesotans. Other credit Unions in Rochester engaging in community service today include First Alliance Credit Union, Mayo Employees Federal Credit Union, and Affinity Plus Credit Union.

Businesses taking time out of their day to have employees come together to give their time and resources to make a difference in the community they live in is rare and commendable.
