Dundas Garage Destroyed by Fire
Gerry Franek, Northfield Fire Chief reports his department was dispatched to the report of a structure fire 8:26 last night in the area of Hamilton Street and 2nd Street in Dundas.
Franek told KDHL upon arrival the detached garage was fully involved in flames. It was a total loss. The home has been vacant for over a year.
There was no power to the two stall garage so the origin is under investigation.
The Northfield Fire Chief says the State Fire Marshal was called in to assist with no apparent cause determined.
I asked him about whether the frigid temperatures hampered their efforts. He did not indicate it was a problem and called it a "low stress fire" explaining there were no people to worry about.
They cleared the scene approximately 90 minutes after the call.
Franek mentioned Northfield firefighters were busy. There was a report around 2:00 a.m. today of smoke in a house and at around the same time there was a carbon monoxide call. Nothing to report there.
