In a recent edition of the Tuesday Talk e-newsletter from the Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism (OACCT), they shared a cautionary word of a scam that's directed toward businesses. Callers are claiming to be from the health department and demanding payments for fines for not complying with health guidelines.

In the story from KSTP in the Twin Cities, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) "is warning businesses to watch out for a scam making the rounds." The MDH indicates, "some restaurants have received calls stating their businesses were part of a scheduled compliance check and they owe a fine for masking violations."

The health department indicated in some of those instances they hadn't conducted on-site checks at the places in question, and further, "public health agencies will work with them over a series of inspections before any fine would become necessary."

If a business feels they might be the subject of a scam, they can contact the Minnesota Attorney General's Office at 1-800-657-3787.

In other news from the Tuesday Talk newsletter:

Price has owned the Godfather's Pizza since the late 1980's and has renewed his commitment to the Owatonna market with this building purchase and renovation."
  • The next Business After Hours is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27 at Bridges Chiropractic Health Clinic at 215 18th Street SE, starting at 5:30 pm.
