Dennis “Denny” Sammon, 77, Faribault
Dennis “Denny” Sammon, age 77, of Faribault, MN, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN following a sudden illness.
Dennis Donald was born on August 10, 1946, in Faribault, MN, the son of Myron J. and Louise (Thayer) Sammon. He graduated from Bethlehem Academy High School with the class of 1964, and Mankato Commercial College for accounting. He was united in marriage to Katherine Sweet on December 2, 1967, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. Denny worked for Dave Guckenberg Accounting firm for several years until 1978 when he joined his father’s business, Myron Sammon Home Improvement Co. He was co-owner with his brother David and later with his son, Jay, operating in many capacities of the business, including sales and accounting. Denny loved his work, was great with people, and enjoyed the social aspect of working with customers and friends. When he wasn’t spending his winters in Arizona, you could find him at the office.
Denny was a member the Rice County Fair Board for 35 years. He was treasurer for the Jaycees and awarded state senator in the organization. He was treasurer for South Central Builders Association, and JC Investment Group, and was active with the Faribault Hockey Association. Denny was active in so many organizations because he believed in making the community a better place.
Denny loved being with his family, whether it was coaching youth baseball and football, taking family road trips, or time at their home on Roberds Lake. Arizona was special to him his entire lifetime, traveling there in his youth and more recently wintering there with Katy.
He is survived by his wife, Katy Sammon; his sons, Jay Sammon (Julie), Brett Sammon (Sarah), and Craig Sammon (Tanya); seven grandchildren, Kailey Krenske and Spencer Sammon, Riley Sammon, Morgan Sammon, and Jeffery Lindahl (Ariel), and Grace Sammon and Grant Sammon; three great grandchildren, Greyson, Mila, and Mara; his brother, David Sammon; mother-in-law, June Sweet; and extended members of the Sammon and Sweet families.
