COVID-19: Second Straight Day Without Double-Digit Deaths
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - For the first time since mid-April, the Minnesota Department of Health has reported fewer than 10 coronavirus related deaths on consecutive days.
State officials today reported nine new COVID-19 deaths in Minnesota. The less than double-digit death toll followed Monday's report that six people had died after contracting the new viral illness. The last time the state experienced two straight days with fewer than 10 coronavirus related fatalities was the 15th and 16th of April.
The over 6000 tests for the viral infection that were completed yesterday detected fewer than 200 new infections statewide and only three new cases in Olmsted County, where there are currently fewer than 60 known active cases of the illness. At the same time, the number of people who have recovered and no longer need isolation is now above 27,000.
COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide were steady today with 357 people currently hospitalized and 185 of them in ICU. Minnesota's current ICU bed usage is the lowest since May 9th.
