St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Coronavirus related deaths in Minnesota have now been declining for three straight weeks.

Over the past seven days, the Minnesota Department of Health has reported 90 COVID-19 deaths throughout the state. it marked the first time since the third week of April the state has experienced fewer than 100 coronavirus related deaths in a week and it was the lowest weekly death toll associated with the pandemic since the week of April 9th through the 15th. 12 new deaths were reported today, raising the overall death toll to 1,372.

Hospitalizations due to the new viral illness have also been steadily declining since late May. On Saturday, the health department reported there were 324 people currently hospitalized because of the coronavirus infection with 161 ICU beds used by COVID-19 patients. At the peak, over 600 people were hospitalized on any given day.

The State Health Department today reported 438 new cases of the infection, including 23 in Olmsted County and another 29 in Mower County. About 2.6-percent of the over 16,800 tests completed yesterday came back positive for COVID-19 and the overall number of infections in Minnesota is up to 32,467.

The number of Minnesotans who have recovered from the illness and no longer require isolation has grown to 28,205.
