Cornelia Brosen, 90, of Owatonna, died Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Haven Homes in Maple Plain, MN.

She was born December 10, 1933 in Albert Lea the daughter of William and Grace (Meelker) Rietveld. Cornelia was raised on a farm near Clarks Grove and attended church at the Hollandale Reformed Church.  After losing her mother at a young age her father remarried and the family moved to a larger farm near Owatonna. In 1951, Cornelia's family moved to California where she graduated from Redlands High School in Redlands, California in 1952. On June 4, 1954 Cornelia married Sidney Brosen at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Owatonna. The couple lived on the Brosen family farm where Cornelia focused on raising five children. Her family trusted the Lord, counted their blessings, and enjoyed and celebrated life together.

Cornelia enjoyed taking family trips to visit her siblings and see places of interest. She was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she was active in numerous areas. She enjoyed volunteering, baking, sewing and most of all, time with her grandchildren. She also treasured tending to her huge flower and vegetables gardens. For over 25 years, Cornelia was the activity director at the Owatonna Nursing Home and later provided home health care.

 

She is survived by her son, David (and Jill) Brosen of Owatonna; daughters, Robin (and David) McBride of Bonita Springs, FL, Jan Brosen of Maple Plain, Julie Williams of Plymouth, Jane (and Phil) Mollman of Rosemount; grandchildren, Carla McBride, Kelly (and Gerard) Sokolis, Rachel (and Justin) Hovde, Kristen (and Jeremy) Bartel, Bethany Mollman, Peter Mollman; great grandchildren, Mackenzie Sokolis, Anthony Sokolis, Gabriel Bartel, Brooklynn Hovde, Camryn Hovde and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four sisters and one brother.

Memorial services will be held Monday, July 1, 2024 at 11:00am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Pastor Lisa Carlson officiating and visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Dania Cemetery in Owatonna.
