Christmas Fire Damages Faribault Home

Faribault Fire Chief Dustin Dienst issued a News Release reporting a home fire on Christmas.

At 7:17 p.m. the Faribault Fire Department, Faribault Police Department and North Memorial Ambulance Service were all dispatched to the report of a structure fire at 1504 23rd Avenue NW.

The News Release states, "The homeowner was at home at the time of the fire and called 911 as soon as the fire was discovered. Upon our arrival heavy smoke was coming from the attached garage."

"Firefighters made entry to the garage and knocked down the flames. The two man doors and the overhead door were opened so smoke could be cleared and overhaul of the garage could start."

"The fire appears to have started below the window in the garage and extended to the ceiling area. The firewall between the garage and the house was intact which played a key role in keeping the fire contained to the garage."

The Faribault Fire Chief goes on to say, "The interior of the home only sustained light smoke damage. Firefighters extinguished all the hot spots and cleared the scene at 8:37 p.m."

Dienst says they conducted an investigation but were unable to determine the ignition source for the fire so the State Fire Marshall's Office has been called in to assist with furthur investigation.

Dienst commented, "The persons in the home took the proper actions that assisted firefighters in limiting damage caused by this fire. Finding the fire in the garage and then making sure the door between the garage and the home was closed was key."

There were no injuries reported to any occupants of the home or any Faribault firefighters battling the blaze.
