According to a write-up by the Pioneer Press, the maze was the idea of Zephyr Theatre's artistic director Calyssa Hall and her father Franz Hall. While brainstorming ways to make money and keep employees on the payroll through the winter, the idea of a massive lighted ice display came to mind. Made up of 450,000 pounds of clear ice, it's thought to be the largest ice maze in the country. Each block weighs 300 pounds and was shipped from a manufacturing plant in Michigan.
