Bethlehem Academy Volleyball Dominates Owatonna

The Faribault Bethlehem Academy Cardinals celebrated parents night with one of their best performances of the season tonight.  The Cardinals swept the Owatonna Huskies 25-14, 25-20, 25-11.  The most impressive aspect of the performance for me was the variety of attacks Bethlehem Academy was able to execute.  The Huskies couldn't key on any particular player because five players had 5 or more kills on the night.

Before the start of the match after the kids and their parents were introduced senior libero Olivia Nass received a plaque from Head Coach Tim Schmitz for achieving her 1,000th career dig against New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva in their last home match a couple weeks ago.  Nass was all over the floor digging balls for the Cardinals in the Owatonna match.

My very unofficial statistics had Bethlehem Academy with 42 kills in the three sets led by junior Haley Lang and freshman Ellie Cohen with 9 kills each.  Junior Lexi Boyd tallied 8 kills, senior Jacie Jasinski 6 kills a and freshman Abby Jandro 5 kills.

Jasinski also collected three blocks and sophomore Kennedy Tutak was involved in three blocks.  Every Cardinal available to play hit the hardwood which is ideal on a parents night.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the match were the four seniors on the Bethlehem Academy team, Nass, Jacinski, Chloe Kohl and Anna Aaker.

The Cardinals host Hayfield Tuesday night to close out the regular dual portion of the season and are involved in the Chaska Tournament this weekend along with most of the top 3A teams in the state.

The Huskies were in scramble mode most of the night or as coaches like to call it "out of system."  They just were not able to generate much offense and some of the credit should go to Bethlehem Academy.

Owatonna does not have a single senior on their team.

Owatonna closes their regular season Tuesday when they host a very good Rochester John Marshall team.
