Rather than going to Vegas for a show, Vegas brings the show to Owatonna when the Owatonna Police Department's canine struts his stuff for local kids. Members of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Minnesota witnessed what he can do. And you can also schedule an appearance from Vegas and officer Casey Martin.

The Just the Facts newsletter from the Owatonna Police Department states, "The duo got a chance to meet with littles to show off some of Vegas' remarkable skills. The duo also brought along Detective Derrik Quinlan who donned bite-protective gear so that Vegas could do a physical apprehension exercise."

To schedule a visit from Martin and Vegas, contact Pam Roberts at 507-774-7200.

The department invites the community to an educational evening hosted by Mayo Clinic Health System on Wednesday, September 15 from 5 to 7 pm on the Steele County Fairgrounds. A canine demonstration will be part of the program in addition to fire safety, bike safety and a car seat clinic. There is no charge to attend.

Don't Drink and Drive

Just the Facts also reports on a recent DWI arrest. Officers responded to a single vehicle crash scene after getting reports "by several witnesses that the vehicle was passing vehicles traveling between 50 to 60 miles per hour" on city streets.

Officers found the vehicle crashed into a pole at South Oak Avenue and Vine Street. "Officers detected an odor of alcohol and the driver admitted to having four beers prior to driving." He failed a road-side field sobriety test. Kobe Lamka, 23-years-old and of Owatonna, was charged with two DWI counts according to Just the Facts.
