There’s a ‘Three’s Company’ Movie in the Works, Are You Really Surprised
With the endless stream of reboots and re-adaptations and remakes and reimaginings and re-whatever-other-word-we’re-using-now (revivals!), news like this becomes inevitable. Chances are, if you even vaguely recall a classic television show, it’s going to come back, and the best you can hope for is something like 21 Jump Street. At worst? It will cinematically haunt your soul, revealing the true insidious nature of your nostalgia like no horror you have ever known before. And with that Herzog-ian thought, we move onto today’s news: New Line is developing a movie based on Three’s Company.
New Movie Releases: May 2016
By now you have the release date for Captain America: Civil War tattooed on your brain, but — shocker! — there are other movies hitting theaters next month, believe it or not. In addition to Marvel's latest, we also have a new film from Shane Black, the sequel to Neighbors and, lest you forget, X-Men: Apocalypse. There's plenty more in our guide to May's new movie releases.
Warren Beatty ‘Very Serious’ About ‘Dick Tracy’ Sequel as His Howard Hughes Film Eyes Awards Season Release
Warren Beatty’s long-developing film about legendary director Howard Hughes is finally preparing to hit theaters, eyeing a fall / winter release this year — that’s excellent news, not only because the actor hasn’t had a major role since 1998's Bulworth, but because the Hughes film has long been a passion project for Beatty. But the untitled Hughes film isn’t the only project he has in mind, as Beatty is “very serious” about possibly returning to one of his older, beloved roles. Unfortunately, it’s not a sequel to The Parallax View.
Disney Adds ‘Peter Pan’ to Its Pile of Live-Action Remakes With ‘Pete’s Dragon’ Director
Surprise! (Not really.) Disney is developing yet another live-action remake of one of their classic animated properties, this time setting their sights on Peter Pan — which sort of feels like a real shots-fired situation following the failure of Joe Wright’s Pan over at Warner Bros. David Lowery, who recently helmed the Pete’s Dragon remake for Disney, has been tapped to direct and script a new live-action Peter Pan movie.
Benedict Cumberbatch to Voice the Grinch in ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’
Yes, we’re getting another adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ holiday classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas, but like the better of the two previous versions, this one will be animated, the way the good cinema lords intended. And in another bit of optimistic news, Benedict Cumberbatch will lend his voice to the title character, a greedy, mean old grinch who has a very valuable lesson to learn about Christmas spirit.
Charlize Theron Would Love to Play Furiosa Again in a ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Sequel
Before you carelessly toss this news in the "obviously" pile, please remember all the reports of tension between Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road — and all the interviews after the film hit theaters, where it seemed like Theron wasn't particularly eager to work on a sequel with George Miller. And while Hardy has signed on for at least two Mad Max sequels, Theron has not, which definitely makes her enthusiastic response to the prospect of playing Furiosa again pretty exciting.
‘Doctor Strange’ Trailer: Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme Has Arrived
As promised last week, the first trailer for Doctor Strange has arrived to tease a more mystical, psychedelic corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following its debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the trailer is now online and offers our first real look at Benedict Cumberbatch’s titular Sorcerer Supreme in action — along with the debut of Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One.
David Wain’s ‘National Lampoon’ Biopic Casts Jon Daly as Bill Murray, Seth Green as Christopher Guest
David Wain is assembling quite the cast for A Futile and Stupid Gesture, his new National Lampoon biopic for Netflix, which is set to begin filming sometime this month. In addition to casting Joel McHale as Chevy Chase (particularly inspired given their Community connection), Wain has landed comedian Jon Daly as Bill Murray and Seth Green as mockumentary king Christopher Guest.
‘Baywatch’ Photo Introduces Dwayne Johnson’s Squad
It’s not enough to inspire #SquadGoals, but at least the cast of Baywatch looks like they’re having a blast in the latest photo update from Dwayne Johnson. The actor shows off his new squad, and sure, this could be a photo from the Baywatch set — or it could be the centerfold in a Macy’s summer catalogue. Baywatch Squadgate 2016, you be the judge
Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart to Star in ‘The Intouchables’ Remake
In addition to starring in ensemble comedies like Top Five and Think Like a Man, Kevin Hart has made a career out of playing one-half of an unlikely pairing. See also: Get Hard with Will Ferrell, The Wedding Ringer with Josh Gad, the Ride Along movies with Ice Cube and the upcoming action-comedy Central Intelligence with Dwayne Johnson. Hart will continue his streak of Odd Couple comedies with Bryan Cranston in the long-developing remake of the hit French film The Intouchables.
