Thank you to Claire LaCanne Extension Educator in Rice and Steele County for setting up last Tuesday's AM Minnesota Program! Claire and Heidi Roop the new Climatologist at the University of Minnesota were my guests on KDHL's AM Minnesota Program. It was fun and very interesting to get to know Heidi our new Climatologist here in Minnesota. Heidi's special interest is in how our climate is changing and how farmers can adapt or better cope with the change.

Heidi for many years has been doing research studying the climate in Antarctica and Greenland. This is where it gets really interesting! By drilling cores thousands of feet deep in glaciers they can determine what the carbon dioxide levels were in the atmosphere say 1 million years ago. By taking the ice core out in a vacuum and then letting the ice melt the air that is released can be measured at that point in time of the world's history.

I do not understand how, because I am not a scientist, but they can determine the age of the ice at a certain depth of the glacier. I think you would enjoy listening to the AM Minnesota Program with Heidi and Claire that is now recorded on a podcase. Just go to the home page on our website and click the banner that says AM Minnesota Podcast. They you will see the AM Minnesota Programs to choose from!
