It is with great joy and love that we honor and celebrate the life of Alma Lee Asbell. Alma was born on a farm during a snowstorm to Carl and Stella Abramson in Dundee, MN on January 29th, 1934.

Alma departed this world peacefully on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024 at 90 years of age.

Alma graduated from Slayton High School in 1951. She graduated from Northwestern College as a Registered Nurse in 1954.

She was united in marriage to Clyde Wallace Asbell on December 31st, 1954.  Their union was blessed with four children: Cynthia (Greg), Bloomington, MN, Michael (Deanna), Moose Lake, MN, Sandra (Brad), Baraboo, WI, and Sharon, Owatonna, MN.

Alma and Clyde enjoyed spending family time with their six grandchildren: Melissa (Terrance), Chris (Krystal), Benjamin (Lillian), Timothy (Dale), Nicolas, Kiana (Riggs) and most recently their three great grandchildren: Luna, Lena, and Cora.

Art and Donita Eisen were supportive friends and neighbors for much of Alma’s life.

Alma worked as a registered nurse in surgery, obstetrics, out-patient same-day surgery, and clinic settings. Her hobbies included travel with Clyde first by motorcycle and later by RV to many states across the nation. At home she enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, card club, TOPS, singing with the Golden Tones, and performing at the Steele County Fair. She attended performances at the Little Theatre and music concerts. She was a devoted member of the church, serving several terms on the counsel, singing in the choir, and bringing communion to those who could not attend. In the community she volunteered for Grandparents for Education and Community Pathways.

She loved, welcomed, and spent time with each member of her family and extended family. Alma was a great listener and supporter of each one.

Alma is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sisters: Dorothy and Beverly.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Associated Church in Owatonna with visitation one hour prior.  A lunch reception will be held after the service followed by interment in Forest Hill Cemetery at 2:00 PM.

We invite you to bring drawings, letters, and pictures that you would like to place in Alma’s vault.
