As Minnesotans, we have learned that pain makes us appreciate the absence of that pain. Winter's bitter cold makes us lovers of spring. Lutefisk helps us appreciate delicious bites of tater tot hotdish. Vikings football brings us to look forward to...the next Vikings season.

The Minnesota Vikings have played in ten conference championship games, winning four of those to advance to the Super Bowl in 1970, 1974, 1975, and 1977. In those Super Bowl appearances, the Vikings have a heartbreaking record of 0-4.

Fran Tarkenton quarterbacked the last three of those teams. Joe Capp was the QB in 1970.

Ten Worst Super Bowl Records of All Time

  1. Minnesota Vikings (0-4)
  2. Buffalo Bills (0-4)
  3. Atlanta Falcons (0-2)
  4. Carolina Panthers (0-2)
  5. Cincinatti Bengals (0-2)
  6. Arizona Cardinals (0-1)
  7. Tennessee Titans (0-1)
  8. Los Angeles Chargers (0-1)
  9. Los Angeles Rams (1-3)
  10. Seattle Seahawks (1-2)

I'm not sure what's worse, being winless in four Super Bowl appearances, or never having advanced to the Super Bowl as is the case for the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Minnesota's first Super Bowl fail came in 1970 in Super Bowl IV when the Kansas City Chiefs (without Patrick Mahomes) topped the Vikings 23 to 7.

Four years later in 1974, the Vikings faced off against the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VIII, falling to the Dolphins 24-7.

Just one season later Minnesota was back in the big game for Super Bowl IX against Pittsburgh, with the Steelers beating the Vikings 16-6.

The Vikings' final Super Bowl appearance came in 1977 for Super Bowl XI, when Minnesota faced Oakland, only to fall to the Raiders 32-14.

The 2021 NFL Draft is scheduled to start on Thursday, April 29th.
