The road construction season can't be over soon enough for downtown Owatonna businesses. The North Cedar Streetscape project is reshaping the area and will be a big bonus when complete. Until then businesses remain open though access is a little tricky is some cases.

The construction update newsletter indicates this week "an additional crew will be on-site to continue service installation and work to start putting the road back together. Work will also continue to progress on the storm sewer and water main in the Pearl Street intersection. Removals and closure of the remainder of the 200 block is anticipated to begin in about one and a half weeks."

At the end of August, "The asbestos steam line within the Pearl Street intersection was safely removed...Working together with the new hotel project, a temporary sidewalk has been established along the east side of the 200 block to allow more direct access to businesses."

In their recent Tuesday Talk newsletter, the Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism urges people to support the area businesses, "Summer construction projects move into fall, a reminder that businesses in these project areas are open and need your support."

  • Rose Street to Pearl Street, June 21 through September 10
  • Pearl Street to Vine Street, August 23 through October 31
