The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting occurred around 8 a.m. Sunday on public hunting land near Motley. A news release says deputies rendered aid, brought the boy from St. Paul out of the woods where EMS personnel continued life-saving measures.

The boy was then airlifted to a hospital in the Twin Cities with what’s being described as a life-threatening gunshot wound. The news release identifies the boy’s uncle as a 47-year-old from St. Paul.

Authorities say the initial investigation indicates the shooting was the result of a hunting accident, however the case has not been closed.
