Owatonna's Arlan Burmeister was presented with the Owatonna Noon Rotary's Service Above Self Award for his work with multiple organizations.

The Paul Harris / Vern White Service Above Self Award was presented to Burmeister during Monday's meeting. He was recognized for his work with the Owatonna Arts Center, the Owatonna Recovery School and the local SCORE chapter.

Burmeister is the current president of the board for the Owatonna Arts Center and was very involved in the recent addition to the center. He was instrumental in the opening of the Recovery School as a place for students with addiction problems to focus on school.

He brought a SCORE chapter to Owatonna. SCORE helps people start a business. Burmeister helps out at the local food shelf and is a fundraiser at his church.

The criteria for the award includes truth, fairness, goodwill and benefit to the community. The award is named after 1955 Owatonna High School graduate Vern White who dedicated his life goodwill and friendship, according to the literature from Monday's meeting.
