Santa on a motorcycle. Giant inflatable Santa's and snowmen. Christmas lights hung from car windows. Owatonna's latest Cruisin' Main event was another big success. The Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism (OACCT) promoted the cruise as a pivot from the usual holiday parade.

Downtown traffic was bumper-to-bumper, but any honking was mostly to acknowledge "Merry Christmas" to one and another or give a shout-out to a reveler who went over-and-above to celebrate the season.

Owatonna Downtown Christmas Cruise

Some years the holiday parade is held during real winter weather. People still jam the streets downtown to celebrate the arrival of the Christmas season. This year, with warmer temperatures, cruisers were able to keep their windows down to wish others "Merry Christmas."

OACCT President Brad Meier has stressed the importance of shopping local, especially during the trying times that local small businesses have endured during the pandemic. Visit the chamber's website for information on how businesses are safely operating. Also find restaurant hours and who is offering take-out and delivery.

Cruise nights have also been a big success this year while honoring the Class of 2020 at Owatonna High School and for Homecoming this fall.
