First it was singing, then songwriting and later joined a group: Bruce Channel.

In Texas, Bruce Channel began singing in his teens. He went to a recording studio to make a demo of songs he wrote, including "Hey! Baby." That song spent three weeks at No. 1 on the charts six months after it was released, according to brucechannel.com.

Channel did some touring in the U.S. and England with his hits "Goin' Back to Louisiana" and "Keep On." The Beatles, a little-known group at the time, headlined with Channel. After a decade of the music business, Channel moved back to Texas with his wife.

In the late '70s, Channel moved to Nashville and wrote many No. 1 songs for country artists: Janie Fricke's "Don't Worry About Me Baby," Mel McDaniel's "Stand Up," T.G. Shepard "Party Time."

"Hey! Baby" was featured in the movie Dirty Dancing with Jennifer Grey and the late Patrick Swayze.

Still living in Nashville, he continues to write songs and is involved with music publishing.

Bruce Channel has joined Larry Henly, formerly of The Newbeats, and Ricky Ray Rector to form Original Copy. The trio are delivering music that is purposeful with a playful lift and a heartfelt message.
