As I was heading to work early this morning my little clunker reached 324,000 miles. I didn't think that it would last this long..I started thinking about all the little things that have happened during my 21 years of commuting to KRFO KAT KOUNTRY 105  early in the dark morning.  One thing that comes to mind was when I was driving up the freeway years ago and just as I hit the Hope way side my truck turned 100,000 miles. I tapped the dashboard and said out loud "you're halfway there old boy"... then I didn't hear ANYTHING!!!! . It wasn't running... I had the odometer as proof, my truck broke down at 100,000 and one tenth mile!!!!

Animals are another thing to deal with in the dark of the early morning. I've come close to hitting deer many times. So far I've only hit two. As a result I tend to drive pretty slow. I'm the little old man hunched over the steering wheel that you swear at when you pass me. I got stopped once by the Sheriff's office for a bulb out but the real reason was my slow speed. I suspect they thought I was actually going home after a night on the town when I was really driving slowly to work and watching for deer. The Deputy asked me if I was alright and I quickly explained why I drive so slowly..

I've also hit my share of skunks and coons.

I also came close to hitting a bunch of horses a couple times. A person that I know of but can't really call a friend had her horses break loose one morning and they were wandering down highway 3. I realized I needed to do something but felt real uncomfortable honking my horn and banging on a strange woman's door at 4 AM..I managed to wake her and she took care of her horses. Less than a month later, the same thing happened. I told her we couldn't keep meeting like this..

I also ran into a group of Holsteins wandering down 45.. Once again I enter a strange yard at 4 am sounding my horn.. A lady was still up!! I shouted up to her window that her cows were walking down the road.. She didn't seem too concerned.

Got any strange things that have happened to you while driving to work?.
