HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’ Premiere: Damon Lindelof Rapture Drama Pushed Back Two Weeks

We’ve been excited to check out Damon Lindelof‘s TV return in HBO’s rapturous new drama ‘The Leftovers,’ particularly after the haunting first trailer, but it seems those left behind will be a bit behind themselves. A production hiatus has forced ‘The Leftovers’ to push back its premiere two weeks, but what does it mean for the new series starring Justin Theroux and Liv Tyler?

We’d previously heard that production had entered a brief hiatus to prepare for shooting on the final episodes of the 10-hour season, though it seems the continued delay has cost ‘The Leftovers’ its June 15 premiere. Previously, the series had been scheduled to debut behind the ‘Game of Thrones‘ season 4 finale, airing its second episode behind the ‘True Blood‘ final season premiere, though now ‘The Leftovers’ has been pushed back to June 29.

“Our production schedule shifted and subsequently that necessitated a change in our debut date,” is all HBO said of the announcement.

For those unfamiliar, HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’ follows those left behind on Earth after a rapture of sorts, those not chosen to be taken up to Heaven. Adapted from Tom Perrotta’s 2009 novel of the same name, the show’s pilot was directed by Peter Berg (‘Lone Survivor‘), and stars Theroux, Tyler, Christopher Eccleston, Carrie Coon, Ann Dowd, Amanda Warren, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Michael Gaston, Max Carver, Charlie Carver, Annie Q, Paterson Joseph, Brad Leland, ‘Private Practice‘ vet Amy Brenneman and ‘Fringe‘ star Emily Meade.

Certainly sad to hear, and we’ll be keeping an eye or two on this hiatus, but what do you think? Will ‘The Leftovers’ have the same impact now that the premiere has been pushed back two weeks? Watch the trailer again above, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
