Owatonna High School senior Dexter Leer is up for the "aspire beverage" athlete of the week award. The Huskies soccer player is averaging nearly two points per game.

Dexter Leer is one of five candidates announced on Monday for the Athlete of the Week honor. The following passage is from the athlete.aspirebeverages.com website. Go there to vote for Dexter!

Dexter Leer...........Owatonna High School...........Soccer - Defensive Midfielder

Three-time All-Conference soccer player, Dexter Leer, has been influential to the team’s successful 5-1-2 record this season.   In three recent tough games, in which the Huskies went 3-0, Dexter had 3 goals and 3 assists.  These included 2 game-winning goals against Mankato East and Rochester Mayo, and an assist on the overtime game-winner in the third game against Farmington.  The senior captain holds many team records for soccer, is also captain of the basketball team, and was All-Conference in baseball last season.  Even though Dexter spends a lot of time with athletics, he holds a 3.99 GPA, participates in orchestra, and volunteers his time to help youth athletes in the soccer and baseball programs.

Head coach Robert Waypa says, “Dexter leads by example in everything he does on and off the field.  If the team stops for a bite to eat after the game, he is the last one there making sure the establishment is spotless.  If tensions rise with players on the field, you will see him step in and calm things down.  I have been told by officials on many occasions that Dexter is a true leader of his team and of his school.”
