Gordy Kosfeld

I was born in the turkey capital of the world - Worthington, Minn. - which explains a lot about me. After graduating from Spring Valley High School in 1977, I attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis to begin my radio dream. After jobs in Desoto, Mo.; Ottumwa, Iowa; North Platte, Neb.; Des Moines, Iowa; and Rochester, Minn.; I arrived at KDHL on June 1, 1987, as the News and Program Director. After Ingstad Broadcasting purchased KDHL/KQCL, I was the News Director exclusively. From 1997 to 1999 I left news and joined the Sales Department. Upon my return to News Director in 1999 I continued some sales work with an emphasis on sports marketing. In 2002, I took over Sports Director duties. I have hosted the AM Minnesota public affairs program since 1988. The Associated Press honored me with multiple awards in Nebraska in 1985 and 1986, including best small market newscast and best documentary both years. My documentary on the 10th anniversary of the exit of the Vietnam War was selected best documentary regardless of market size. In Faribault, my work has been recognized with Minnesota News Network awards. In 2001, I was honored with the Minnesota Emergency Management Directors Outstanding Media Radio Award for work during a tornado that hit the Nortfield area. In 2009 and 2011, I was honored by the Region One athletic directors for coverage of the region. In October 2014, I received the prestigious Angelo Giuliani Award from the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association for coverage of the sport. In 2014, I was awarded the Book of Golden Deeds Award by the Faribault Exchange Club for community service and was honored to receive a Presidential Award for Community Service after being nominated by the Faribault Elks Club. I have also been the voice of the Carleton Knights for over a decade. In 2001 I was named Grand Marshall of the Kenyon Carriage and Cutter Parade and in 2004 received Kenyon's key to the city award for work promoting the community during the Rose Fest celebration. I was top walker for the March of Dimes Walk for Babies in 1990, 1991 and 1992. I have been Co-Chair of the Rice County Relay for Life American Cancer Society event for over a decade and for many years have helped with meal prep work for the community Thanksgiving dinner in Faribault. I was Faribault United Way Co-Fundraising Chair In 2009. I have also been involved at Christ Lutheran Church serving as Council President. I have been seen throughout the region announcing the Faribault Heritage Festival Parade since 1988 and the Dam Days parade in Morristown for well over a decade. I have announced the Kolacky Days parade in Montgomery, Lonsdale Community Days parade, Dennison Days parade and Rose Fest parade in Kenyon. I have emceed the Rice County Fair Queen Coronation and Senior recognition program at the fair and Faribault Memorial Day Program at Central Park. In my spare time, I enjoy riding bike and going on international trips learning more about this planet. I also dabble in poetry and share some of my poems with KDHL listeners.
